Apple News | Foxconn to Ship 24 Million iPhone 4Gs in 2010
Starting in June, Foxconn will ship 24 million units of the Apple iPhone 4G which features an improved display, more memory, and a larger battery, according to Digitimes.
Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 4G on June 7, 2010 during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. The new device will adopt IPS (in-plane switching) panels with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology and a 960×640 resolution, Kuo said, noting that LG Display and Prime View International are the panel suppliers.
Digitimes also claims the iPhone 4G will run on the Arm Cortex A8 processor and have a 512MB memory module from Samsung which is double that of the iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone 4G’s display panel is said to be 33% thinner to allow for a larger battery module supplied by Simplo Technology and Dynapack International Technology.

Beer, betrayal, lost iPhone
SAN FRANCISCO – FEARING ‘huge’ losses in sales after pictures leaked of its fourth-generation iPhone, Apple convinced police to launch a felony investigation and chief executive Steve Jobs contacted the offending Web site himself to try and recover the gadget.
A California court unsealed a search warrant on Friday in the case of the lost or stolen prototype 4G iPhone whose inner workings ended up on popular gadget site Gizmodo – weaving a bizarre tale of beer gardens, paranoid lawyers and emails to the Apple chief. Apple, which has released a new iPhone in each of the past three summers, is known for its secrecy. It is widely believed to be releasing its latest model this summer.
The story of the missing iPhone that belonged to an Apple engineer has captivated Silicon Valley since news broke last month. The missing phone apparently caused concern among Apple executives, according to a meticulously detailed April 23 search warrant by Matthew Broad, a detective with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office. An outside lawyer for the company considered the missing prototype ‘invaluable’ and publication of its details ‘immensely damaging’ to Apple’s future sales, Broad wrote. The loss of the prototype, owned by Apple employee Robert Gray Powell, in late March, prompted a meeting between company executives and law enforcement.
‘Riley stated the publication of the device and its features is immensely damaging to Apple,’ wrote Broad in the warrant, referring to Apple’s outside counsel, George Riley of O’Melveny and Myers. Apple’s director of information security, Rick Orloff, and the company’s general counsel, Bruce Sewell, were also at the April 20 meeting.
Riley said Apple customers would delay purchases until the new iPhone was released, ‘thereby hurting overall sales and negatively effecting Apple’s earnings,’ the detective wrote. ‘Riley stated he could not currently provide an estimated loss, but he believed it was ‘huge’,’ Broad wrote. Apple officials were not available for comment.
The incident began when Apple engineer Powell lost the prototype iPhone while at a German restaurant and beer garden in Redwood City, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was then either found or stolen by Brian Hogan, according to the search warrant. But Hogan’s room-mate, worried that the iPhone could be traced back to her after he plugged it into her computer, tipped off Apple that he had sold it to Gizmodo for US$8,500 (S$11,800). Photos and details of the new device – ripped apart to reveal its inner workings – subsequently appeared on the website.

Apple News | Prototype iPhone Now Running iPhone OS 4.0? [More Photos]
It seems the owner of the Vietnam prototype iPhone 4G has succeeded in getting iPhone OS 4.0 running on the device, according to a new photo obtained by Engadget.
So far we have yet to see more pics of the operating system; however, if true, the prototype could reveal more information as new betas of OS 4.0 get seeded to developers.
Also, a lot more photos have been taken of the device. You can see them below…

iPhone 4G video?
From iClarified.com
What’s new:
• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic
What’s changed:
• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery
Gizmodo also states the reasons they believe this is the real deal…
● It has been reported lost
● The screen
● The operating system
● It is recognized as an iPhone
● It uses micro-sim
● The camouflage case
● The fact that it’s in the wild right now
● The guts, the definitive proof

Apple News | Leaked Images of an Accidentally Lost iPhone 4G Prototype? [Update]
Images have just leaked of what might be an iPhone 4G prototype found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside an iPhone 3G case.
Engadget received the photos from the new owner who is looking to sell the device.
Right now we don’t have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn’t booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It’s not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it’s certainly a compelling design, no matter how you look at it.
We’ll post more details as they become available!
*Update: It seems this device has been spotted before. According to @TUDream a chinese tweeteruploaded similar photos some time ago.

Apple News | Apple to Announce the iPhone 4G on June 22nd?
- Image via Wikipedia
Apple has booked June 22nd at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts by the Moscone Center in San Francisco, according to ModMyi.
It’s very possible that the date, booked under the name of Apple, will be used for the keynote presentation. Last year’s keynote was on June 8th and the year before that it was on the 9th.
Recent evidence discovered in the iPhone OS 4.0 Beta reveals that the new iPhone will likely have two cameras to support video chat.
**Update: MacRumors says, In the absence of evidence or a source for the claim that Apple has booked a venue for June 22nd, we’re taking this rumor with a grain of salt. It does match with an earlier report of a June 22nd launch date, but multiple hints have suggested that Apple is planning to hold WWDC a week later than that.

iPhone OS 4 Compatibility
iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
